Syria. Death toll has reached at least 60,000
data from a UN-commissioned study revealed that the death toll in Syria has reached at least 60,000.
Researchers compiled a list of 59,648 individuals reported killed between March 15, 2011, and Nov. 30, 2012 by cross-referencing seven data sources.
U.N. Human Rights Commissioner Navi Pillay called the number of casualties “truly shocking” and said the number has most probably risen past 60,000 since then.
The last official estimate by the United Nation’s came in May, when U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon put the death toll at more than 10,000.
